Guest Speakers – Members of Gallery 114
In the early 1980s, Portland artists and art galleries began to move into an area of rundown warehouses. They called themselves the “Pearl” in the city’s rough oyster north of Burnside. The Pearl District is now home to several of the finest art galleries in the Northwest, alongside thousands of residents and workers, many of whom enrich their lives, their homes and their businesses with art. It is also the long-time home of Gallery 114, that rare gallery “where the artists run the show.” Where no one tells them what to create, what to exhibit or whom to invite to share the space. Three members of this vibrant artist collective will be PDBA’s breakfast speakers at our meeting on June 12th.
